Shamsuddin Abdul-Hamid is from Newark, New Jersey. Abdul-Hamid is the New Jersey Poetry Out Loud Champion and recipient of the Star-Ledger Scholarship for the Performing Arts. An acting major at Mason Gross School of the Arts, he has completed the Rutgers Conservatory at Shakespeare’s Globe in London where he performed in Two Gentleman of Verona. His favorite Mason Gross Theater credits include: Alonedom, Tuck-It-Away and Other Stories, Blue Room, Two Gentleman of Verona, Cyrano de Bergerac and You Can’t Take It With You. Abdul-Hamid has been awarded for his spoken word work at various Rutgers talent competitions including Step Into the Spotlight. He received the Best Actor award at Rutgers Movie Fest for his work in a student film. He was the Central Ward Youth Representative for Mayor Cory Booker’s Newark Youth Connection Council and currently serves as the voice of the Newark Public Library, lending his talent to public service announcements and promotional materials.
