Kari Joy Hinkson is a native New Yorker, who was born and raised in Brooklyn. She received her BA in English with a concentration in Third World Literature from Cornell University. She went on to pursue her MFA at the Actors Studio Drama School, where she had the privilege to work on: Rosemary with Ginger, Robert Johnson: Trick the Devil, Intimate Apparel, Dolores and many other various works. Her New York theater credits include: Broken Motherhood Museum (NuAFrikan Theatre), Southern Belles (Afrikan Women’s Repertory Theatre) Woman to Woman (Freedom Train Productions) and T’was the Night Before Christmas (Christian Cultural Center). Writing since she was in elementary school, Kari Joy has always been passionate about sharing her heart in poetic, lyrical and narrative forms. She is honored to have the opportunity to express her perspective through play writing. She is currently developing her first play, That Shameful Part.
